Music and the Brain

By Simon Mulder

Most people say they enjoy listening to (certain types of) music. But what do we actually know about what music really does to us? Simon Mulder has asked clinical neuromusicologist Artur C. Jaschke to explain to us the influence of music on the individual and we look at the effects of music on our brain. What does it do to our state of mind [or: well-being] and our functioning? And how can music help people with certain conditions, such as autism, dementia or depression?
