House of Fascination ~ The Fool

House of Fascination

The Fool

TenClub member Jade Moon Finch proudly presents an evening about the life and work of his parents Barry and Yosha Finch, who formed one half of esoteric and folklore-inspired design collective The Fool, the other half being Simon Posthuma and Marijke Koger. The Fool burst upon the creative London Rock&Roll scene during the second half of the sixties, conceptualising the visual language for legendary clients such as The Beatles, Cream, Donovan, Mick Jagger & Marianne Faithful, The Hollies, Procol Harem and P.J. Proby, to name a few.

The Fool helped build the cornerstone of a visionary era: their daring, impressive, phenomenal and potent formula gave new meaning to the use of costumes and set designs by the recording and performing artists of the time. Designing fashion, creating album covers, doing stage design, painting murals, The Fool were eventually commissioned by The Beatles to create a “beautiful place where beautiful people could buy beautiful things” as stated by Paul McCartney, called their Apple boutique.

The Fool went on to the USA to record an album with Graham Nash and ended up in California where they made their next mark on the sixties generation, painting the exterior of the Aquarius Theater on Sunset Boulevard where the musical Hair was being staged. It became another landmark that stood out and even made the Guinness book of records for largest mural ever made at the time.

During the 1970s Barry and Yosha continued to create commissioned art under their own names for the stars of the era including The Mamas & the Papas, Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin, Eric Burdon, and The Pointer Sisters and Jim Morrison.

Expect an evening where Jade passionately speaks about the life and art of his parents, where live musicians including Dany Lademacher and Dirk Vermeij of Herman Brood’s Wild Romance will play songs from the era, as well as one track from the upcoming compilation album. ‘The Fools’ Romance’. Jade will also be giving some insights in the unique way in which esotericism and historic folklore played a major role in his parents’ creations.

Please note that a crew will be present tonight to record footage for the upcoming documentary ‘The Fool Comes Alive’ (out this fall).
