It is a Ragtime Bday!
Ragtime, the ultimate play by ear, improvisational style of dance music, was invented in the late 19th century among a community of black musicians in St Louis, the gateway to the American West.
Originally a music of brothels, bars and saloons, it comes as no surprise that Ragtime works particularly well in TenClub’s Maison des Curiosités, that secret little world where fantasy turns into reality…
As accomplished jazz trumpeter Pablo Castillo and his Syncopators passionately perform their favourite ragtime standards, we will celebrate the birthdays of Jochem Janssen, Merel Janssen and Valentine Kreykamp, who happen to be fascinated by this original dance music that has always been particularly unbound and unimpressed by the so-called rules imposed on society by the ruling class.
