In our Cinéma Extraordinaire series we’re watching River of Fundament in the Mayer Manor, Matthew Barney’s film based on Norman Mailer’s novel Ancient Evenings. Expect rebirth, ritual, and unforgettable imagery. Settle in: it’s two hours of cinematic opera-like spectacle with music driving the narrative.
“The River Running Below Nes 116”
There is a rumor the founders never denied:
that beneath TenClub
runs a hidden river.
Not water,
something thicker, older, rustier,
a current carrying forgotten versions of ourselves.
If you place your ear to the floor,
just there, by the well in the meditation room,
you may feel the rush.
That’s the river exhaling.
It is our Cinéma Extraordinaire’s movie
of the night, aiming to celebrate
its 10 year anniversary
Every night we gather,
the river rises a little.
It tastes the audience,
chooses who will be softened, sharpened,
who will be alchemized,
who will be swallowed and returned reincarnated
On Wednesday night, December 17th, it wants to swallow you whole.
And when the lights dim
and the film’s own river begins to flow,
you will hear the floor beneath you murmur:
“Welcome home.
You are in the current now, surrender and be swept away.”
Be there at 19.00 for our live pre-show. Plus: bring a friend, we’ll bring the popcorn.
