TenClub’s Monster Room turns into Amsterdam’s one and only actual jazz club every Sunday afternoon. Our headquarters at Nes 116 bring the atmosphere Amsterdam’s jazz scene has been waiting for without knowing it. Small to medium in size, the room provides the intimate backdrop for the hot and steamy performances by your host and master pianist Bas van Lier, who invites national and international guest artists to perform alongside himself during these very special matinee sessions. With just one season behind us, we are grateful to see so many of Amsterdam’s jazz aficionados time and time again on Sunday afternoons.
Today’s guest: Michael Varekamp
Inspired by the entire history of jazz in general and by Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis in particular, Michael Varekamp first picked up the trumpet at the age of ten. Having played in jazz venues across the world including Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola and Birdland, Michael lives and breathes music every single day. 2018 saw the release of his album Elektra, an improvised fantasy about a musical collaboration between Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis. Michael Varekamp is a world class jazz trumpeter and this performance is not to be missed.
