About the Érard Grand Piano Series
TenClub invites master pianists who specialise in historical pianos to curate their own program for the Érard Grand Piano Series and to perform their music of choice in the unique and intimate atmosphere of our fin-de-siècle salon at Nes 120. Internationally acclaimed pianists such as Artem Belogurov, Vivianne Cheng and Ksenia Kouzmenko have performed during the first season, which started in the fall of 2022 and ended last June. We are very excited to present a brand new season with rarely or never before heard programs by Henry Kelder, Martin Oei, Daria van den Bercken, Nicolas van Poucke, Klára Würtz, Evelina Vorontsova and Bart van Oort, all of whom have created a program specifically for TenClub’s very own 1892 Érard Grand piano.
TenClub wouldn’t be TenClub if we wouldn’t always start with a poetic introduction to the program.
Curious, music minded people of Amsterdam and beyond, we are looking forward to enjoying an entirely new string of Érard Grand Piano concerts with you in ‘23/’24!
Also look out for the new Érard Student Series, starting this season. These concerts will be given by conservatory students and will take place in the building next to the Mayer Manor, at Nes 120.
About the Érard
The sound of this 1892 Érard at TenClub, restored with great precision and love, is original and unparalleled. The music as Henry Kelder will play it on the Érard is as the composers once intended it to be played. After all, not only were the ‘timeless’ pieces created on the instrument, but all the greats of classical music actually also played on an Érard grand piano: Chopin, Mendelssohn, Verdi, Liszt, Ravel, Fauré, Wagner, Debussy and Diepenbrock, to name but a few.
About Martin Oei
Martin Oei (born 1996) is a young pianist who wants to share his love for piano music with new audiences. In 2020, he developed the performance ‘Tom & Jerry in the Garden of Delights’ with exclusive footage about the life of Franz Liszt.
Oei often chooses to play pieces from the Romantic period: his favourite composers are Chopin, Liszt, Schubert and Rachmaninov. He enjoys playing historical instruments such as fortepianos and French grand pianos of the Érard brand. He does this during his own series of “Piano Festivals” at the Royal Concertgebouw, among others, where he gave his first solo recital at age sixteen.
Since the age of twelve, Oei has won various prizes such as the Prinses Christina Concours, Jong Muziektalent Nederland, Young Pianist Foundation and the Steinway & Sons International Piano Competition.
On his CD ‘Chopin a deux’ (2016), Oei plays together with Daniel Wayenberg on two original Érard grand pianos from the nineteenth century: This CD contains both of Chopin’s piano concertos in the original performance for two grand pianos and received rave reviews in De Volkskrant, NRC, Nederlands Dagblad, Trouw and music magazine Luister. Oei’s fifth CD, ‘Worlds of Liszt’, contains the pieces from the show ‘Tom and Jerry in the Garden of Delights’, recorded on authentic 1846 Érard.
About Martin Oei’s ‘Worlds of Liszt’
Martin Oei will deliver a unique concert on a historical grand piano. Whilst listening to the concert, we get to see beautiful visual representations of two famous sonatas, a “Soirée” and a love song by composer and pianist Franz Liszt. These are visualisations that depict Liszt’s life journey. Liza Verboon, Jet Westbroek and Lamine Ndiaye created the unique film material at Oei’s request, intended to appeal to a young audience. For the ‘Dante Sonata’, this resulted in a film based on the surrealist painting ‘The Garden of Delights’ by Hieronymus Bosch.
Oei closes the concert with the ‘Second Hungarian Rhapsody’; here he shows the Tom & Jerry cartoon in which Tom plays this rhapsody, while Jerry, as always, is pretty much bothering him. But of course, the sound we hear while we watch the film comes from TenClub’s Érard grand piano.

Voor de Érard Grand Piano Series nodigen we meesterpianisten uit die gespecialiseerd zijn in het bespelen historische piano’s om hun eigen programma samen te stellen en die muziek zelf uit te voeren in de unieke en intieme sfeer van onze fin-de-siècle salon aan Nes 120. Internationaal gerenommeerde pianisten zoals Artem Belogurov, Vivianne Cheng en Ksenia Kouzmenko hebben opgetreden tijdens het eerste seizoen, dat begon in de herfst van 2022 en eindigde in juni van dit jaar. Met trots presenteren we het seizoen ‘23/’24 met zelden of nooit eerder gehoorde programma’s van Henry Kelder, Martin Oei, Daria van den Bercken, Nicolas van Poucke, Klára Würtz, Evelina Vorontsova en Bart van Oort, die allemaal een programma hebben gemaakt speciaal voor TenClub’s eigen 1892 Érard Grand piano.
TenClub zou TenClub niet zijn als we het programma niet altijd zouden beginnen met korte poëtische introductie van het programma.

Over de Érard
De klank van deze met grote precisie en liefde gerestaureerde Érard uit 1892 van TenClub is origineel en ongeëvenaard. De muziek zoals Klára Würtz die uit de Érard zal laten klinken, is zoals de componisten het ooit bedoeld hebben. De ‘tijdloze’ stukken zijn per slot van rekening niet alleen op een dergelijk instrument ontstaan, maar alle groten der klassieke muziek speelden op een Érard-vleugel: Chopin, Mendelssohn, Verdi, Liszt, Ravel, Fauré, Wagner, Debussy en Diepenbrock, om er maar een paar te noemen.
Over Martin Oei
Martin Oei (1996) is een jonge pianist die zijn liefde voor pianomuziek wil delen met nieuwe doelgroepen. Daarom ontwikkelde hij in 2020 de voorstelling ‘Tom & Jerry in de Tuin der Lusten’ met bijzonder beeldmateriaal over het het leven van Franz Liszt.
Oei kiest vaak voor de Romantiek: zijn lievelingscomponisten zijn Chopin, Liszt, Schubert en Rachmaninov. Hij speelt graag op historische instrumenten zoals fortepiano’s en Franse vleugels van het merk Érard. Dat doet hij onder andere tijdens zijn eigen serie ‘Pianofeesten’ in het Koninklijk Concertgebouw, waar hij op zijn zestiende zijn eerste solo recital gaf.
Oei won vanaf zijn twaalfde diverse prijzen (o.a. Prinses Christina Concours, Jong Muziektalent Nederland, Young Pianist Foundation, Steinway & Sons International Piano Competition).
Op zijn cd ‘Chopin a deux’ (2016) speelt Oei samen met Daniel Wayenberg op twee originele Érard vleugels uit de negentiende eeuw:. Deze cd bevat beide pianoconcerten van Chopin in de originele uitvoering voor twee vleugels en kreeg lovende recensies in De Volkskrant, NRC, Nederlands Dagblad, Trouw en muziektijdschrift Luister. Oei’s vijfde CD, ‘Worlds of Liszt’, bevat de stukken uit de voorstelling Tom en Jerry in de Tuin der Lusten, opgenomen op authentieke Erard uit 1846.
Over Martin Oei’s ‘Worlds of Liszt’
Martin Oei geeft een bijzonder concert op een bijzondere vleugel. We krijgen prachtige visualisaties te zien bij zijn uitvoering van twee beroemde sonates, een ‘Soirée’ en een liefdeslied van componist en pianist Franz Liszt. Het zijn visualisaties die de levensloop van Liszt verbeelden. Liza Verboon, Jet Westbroek en Lamine Ndiaye maakten het unieke filmmateriaal op Oei’s verzoek, bedoeld om ook een jong publiek aan te spreken. Bij de ‘Dante-sonate’ resulteerde dit in een film gebaseerd op het surrealistische schilderij ‘De Tuin der Lusten’ van Jeroen Bosch.
Martin sluit het concert af met de ‘Tweede Hongaarse Rapsodie’; hierbij vertoont hij de Tom & Jerry cartoon waarin Tom deze rapsodie speelt, terwijl Jerry hem, zoals altijd, behoorlijk dwars zit. Maar het geluid dat we bij de film horen komt natuurlijk uit de Érard grand piano van TenClub.
